We have been in the net business for along time. But it was only after our daughter took a interest in horses that we started making hay nets. The first ones were for her horse, an OTTB named Enduring Star and a quarter horse named Candy. The feeder is basically a round bale cover that is made out of netting that completely encases the round bale. This net works great and saves alot of money and waste. It should more then double the life of a round bale. Can be used with or without a round hay ring.
We are now offering our round bale hay nets in 1 1/4". Our vet was just out for Fall shots and she suggested that our thoroughbred would benefit from a 1 1/4" hay bag in his stall. He'll still get the same anount of hay at night but it will just take him longer to eat it, thus keeping him busy. We were already getting alot of request for the 1 1/4" bale nets, so here they are in several different sizes.
This is a complete net that will fit a 5 foot high by 5 foot wide (diameter) round hay bale that is around 4 m.m. in thickness. It has 1 1/4" inches holes which will slow your horses down but still allow them to eat without making a mess of the whole bale. It will slow their hay comsumption down by about half or alittle more, depending on the horse. Horses are known to graze just about 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They don't need to consume that much hay. This net may make your horse mad until he discovers how to get the hay out. It will also eliminates waste because it keeps them from pulls out big chucks and most of it falling to the ground. The hay net feeder is made from #30 commercial white nylon netting. Each strand is over 300 pound test. You will save enough money in hay very quickly to cover the cost of the net. The net is reusable over and over again. How many times you can reuse the net will depend on your horses.
If you are looking for a hay net to extend the life of your bale, we now offer round bale hay nets in 3 different hole sizes - 1" - 2" & 4". The 1" and 2" are slow net feeders. The 4" will not slow the consumption of hay, just help keep them from destroying the bale. The first 4" we made was for our daughters best friend. She has an OTTB that will just about run though the middle of the bale. She loves to make a huge mess out of it. Therefore, we made a 4 inch net that just goes around the sides of the bale. The 4 inch holes allows her to eat as much as she wants while not destroying the bale.
This net is super easy to install. Just pull the net over the top of bale, working the net all the way to the bottom, then clinch the rope tight at the bottom with the pre-installed rope. Installing in just 2 or 3 minutes.
This net will also work for small farm animals such as goats. We have 2 goats and use one for them.

If you will be using this net without a metal hay ring, we don't recommend using it for horses with shoes as the shoes may become caught in the net.
